Philip Lancaster – BaritonePhilip Lancaster is a singer, composer, scholar, and dabbler in poetry. As a singer, Philip has performed in recital and oratorio at venues and festivals across the country. Academically, he was lately British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Exeter, where he taught poetry. He letures widely on music and poetry, and is the leading authority on the works of the 20th century composer-poet Ivor Gurney. Philip has brought many of Gurney's musical works to performance, recording and broadcast, and is co-editing Gurney's complete poetry for publication by the Oxford University Press, of which volume one is to be published next year. He is actively writing a major study of Gurney's literary and musical works, `The Gathering Mind'. Philip's own compositions have only recently started to find a stage, having returned to composing under the auspices of a Finzi Trust Scholarship in 2014. Already, his works have been heard at several festivals, including the premiere of a major chamber oratorio, War Passion, at the Three Choirs Festival in July 2016. He now lives in mid-Devon, with his young family of four children, enjoying the sea, the moors, rain and tea, at every practicable opportunity.
